New partnership with People & Places
A multi-level review of parking provision in town centres
Car parking is a fundamental part of any town centre and the way car parks operate and the experience motorists encounter can directly affect the vitality of a town centre. Until now councils, business improvement district managers, car parking managers and economic regeneration officers have had little cost-effective and independent opportunities to objectively review parking operations to assess weakness and identify opportunities.
The People & Places Partnership and Park Consult have come together to form People, Place & Parking Process to provide such groups with cost-effective consultancy to assist in unlocking the potential of car parking facilities so they in turn can better contribute to the development of vibrant town centres.
The People & Places Partnership are experts in the field of town centre regeneration and Park Consult have extensive experience in commercial car parking management and their blend of experience and knowledge is perfectly suited to provide a comprehensive review that pulls together all relevant stakeholders.
Richard Ofield of Park Consult commented “Providing car parking is a fundamental part of a town centre – facilitating its use by customers, workers, residents and visitors. If parking operations are not working effectively then ultimately the town centre will suffer and thus contribute to urban decline. On the flip side car parks and the way they are operated can provide a host of opportunities to help assist in enhancing the customer/ visitor experience, to assist in the continued development and prosperity of a town centre. Times are quickly changing in the car parking management sector driven by technology and consumer demand. The use of technology is already well established but is set to continue to revolutionise the parking sector over the coming years. These are exciting times, where technology will make the parking process easier and safer for the consumer. Technology will also continue to reduce operating costs, maximise revenues and simplify management processes. Consumers are quick to adapt and councils must be able and willing to adapt if their parking operations are to play a fundamental part in the economic and social development of their town centres”.
Our consultancy is tailored to suit our clients’ requirements, from an initial review to bespoke surveying and analysis. Importantly, our approach also brings together different stakeholders and deals with the breadth of issues affecting how parking influences people’s perceptions of place. To help review, monitor and develop parking environments to support the town centre, we have put together a parking review process that can be tailored to the depth of review and budget requirements.
